Exactly Solvable Models: The Road Towards a Rigorous Treatment of Phase Transitions in Finite Systems
نویسنده
چکیده
We discuss exact analytical solutions of a variety of statistical models recently obtained for finite systems by a novel powerful mathematical method, the Laplace-Fourier transform. Among them are a constrained version of the statistical multifragmentation model, the Gas of Bags Model and the Hills and Dales Model of surface partition. Thus, the LaplaceFourier transform allows one to study the nuclear matter equation of state, the equation of state of hadronic and quark gluon matter and surface partitions on the same footing. A complete analysis of the isobaric partition singularities of these models is done for finite systems. The developed formalism allows us, for the first time, to exactly define the finite volume analogs of gaseous, liquid and mixed phases of these models from the first principles of statistical mechanics and demonstrate the pitfalls of earlier works. The found solutions may be used for building up a new theoretical apparatus to rigorously study phase transitions in finite systems. The strategic directions of future research opened by these exact results are also discussed.

Topological quantum phase transition in an exactly solvable model of a chiral spin liquid at finite temperature
We study the finite-temperature nature of a quantum phase transition between an Abelian and a non-Abelian topological phase in an exactly solvable model of the chiral spin liquid of Yao and Kivelson Phys. Rev. Lett. 99, 247203 2007 . As it is exactly solvable, this model can serve as a testbed for developing better measures for describing topological quantum phase transitions. We use the global...
متن کاملMutual-exclusion statistics in exactly solvable models in one and higher dimensions at low temperatures.
We study statistical characterization of the many-body states in exactly solvable models with internal degrees of freedom. The models under consideration include the isotropic and anisotropic Heisenberg spin chain, the Hubbard chain, and a model in higher dimensions which exhibits the Mott metal-insulator transition. It is shown that the ground state of these systems is all described by that of...

An exactly solvable reaction-diffusion model consisting of first class particles in the presence of a single second class particle is introduced on a one-dimensional lattice with periodic boundary condition. The number of first class particles can be changed due to creation and annihilation reactions. It is shown that the system undergoes a discontinuous phase transition from a phase with no em...
متن کاملCondensation transitions in a model for a directed network with weighted links.
An exactly solvable model for the rewiring dynamics of weighted, directed networks is introduced. Simulations indicate that the model exhibits two types of condensation: (i) a phase in which, for each node, a finite fraction of its total out-strength condenses onto a single link; (ii) a phase in which a finite fraction of the total weight in the system is directed into a single node. A virtue o...
متن کاملAn Exactly Solvable Constrained Xxz Chain *
A new family of exactly solvable models is introduced. These models are generalizations of the XXZ chain where the distance among spins up (σ z-basis) cannot be smaller or equal to t (t = 0, 1, 2, ...). The case t = 0 recovers the standard XXZ chain. The coordinate Bethe ansatz is applied and the phase diagram is calculated. Exploring the finite-size consequences of conformal invariance the cri...
